“Dear Baby, I hope someday somebody wants to hold you for 20 minutes straight and that's all they do. They don't pull away.
They don't look at your face. They don't try to kiss you.
All they do is wrap you up in their arms and hold on tight, without an ounce of selfishness to it. “ – Waitress (2007)
That's the idea behind "Wholed Me:" that from time to time, we all just need to be held... selflessly... in safety... in love. ("Wholed" is a mix of "whole" and "hold.")
Many doctors and researchers say children who do not receive enough physical and emotional attention early in life are at higher risk for behavioral, social and emotional problems later in life.
While I'm no doctor, I ask "When do we ever stop needing physical and emotional connection?"
I don't think many adults receive enough safe, loving physical contact or positive emotional support. "Wholed Me" is my effort to remedy this.
The experience is about two human beings providing a safe, sacred embrace to each other for 3-5 minutes (or longer, depending on the environment and program). This is a non-sexual, fully clothed embrace which focuses simply on being loving and compassionate in the moment. There is no talking, "coaching" or conversation. It is, simply, one human being "wholeding" another.
Individual sessions are available with our Senior Minister. Group classes begin in May.
